Food or Drug?

Some Foods that some doctors don’t tell you:

Man is a food-dependent creature. If you don’t feed him, he will die. If you feed him improperly, part of him will die.-Emanuel Cheraskin, M.D., D.M.D.

For Controlling BAD Cholestrol:

When it comes to controlling your bad cholesterol, Red yeast rice (rice that is fermented using Monascus purpureus, a red yeast) which has been naturally grown in China since 800AD, does such a good job that USA- FDA (Food and drug Administration) labeled it a drug, then turned around and banned it from being imported into the USA. The FDA cited a risk of severe muscle problems that could lead to kidney disease.

However, the truth of the matter is that one of the most important ingredients in red yeast rice is monacolin K. It’s also known as lovastatin, the active ingredient in the prescription drug Mevacor. So the pharmaceutical manufacturer of Mevacor argues that since it owns the rights to the ingredient lovastatin which is the same ingredient that is found naturally in the red yeast rice, therefore selling the red yeast rice is tantamount to their patent impingement by the red yeast rice traders.

FDA Suddenly Bans Drugs That Have Been On The Market For Decades

In the case of lovastatin, the FDA banned the supplements because they are “identical to a drug and, thus, subject to regulation as a drug.” That is very convenient for the drug company, which now charges monopoly rents on the product — which can increase prices at ridiculous levels as shown above where 1kg of red yeast rice once in a bottle shoots to over $374. Imagine the profit margin between the price paid to the rice farmer and the price paid by the patient at a drug store!

How Well Does Red Yeast Rice Lower Cholesterol?

Studies have shown that red yeast rice can significantly lower levels of total cholesterol and specifically LDL, or “bad” cholesterol. One showed that taking 2.4 grams per day of red yeast rice reduced LDL levels by 22% and total cholesterol by 16% in 12 weeks. Another study showed that taking 1.2 grams per day lowered LDL levels by 26% in just eight weeks.

What Are the Risk Side effects from lovastatin Red Yeast Rice, that is naturally grown?

Studies have shown that red yeast rice side effects are mild, like headaches, heartburn, and upset stomach.

What Are the Risk Side effects from prescription lovastatin, that is man made in the Lab?

Studies have shown that Side effects from prescription lovastatin include elevation of liver enzymes and muscle enzymes, muscle problems, and liver problems..
